Golf: Superal surges ahead early in RSGC AmBank Junior Am

KUALA LUMPUR — Princess Superal charged to the fore with an opening one-under-par 71 to build a comfortable cushion against Malaysian Ginnie Ho in the 16-18 girls division of the RSGC AmBank Junior Amateur Golf Open.
Superal, an ICTSI member from the Philippines, shot two birdies and a bogey for that 71 as she was the lone player to submit an under card score.
“She was very consistent and that gave her a very large lead,” said ICTSI and national women’s coach Bong Lopez.

While the Filipina flourished with steady play, her rival struggled at the Royal Selangor Golf Club’s soggy course brought about by heavy rain.

Ho, a member of the Johor Golf and Country Club, limped to an 80, while countrywoman Surendran Raesha from the Kota Permai Golf Club stumbled to an 81 in a tie with Ho Cai Yan from the Kelab Golf Rahman Putra.

Isabella Chan, who hails from New South Wales, Australia, carded an 83 and shared fifth spot with Nyca Khaw Wan Huei of Malaysia.

In the girls 15-under, the Philippines dominated the field with Mikhaela Fortuna, also of ICTSI, leading the pack with a 73.

Teammates Pauline del Rosario and Sofia Chabon also played steady games and were second and third in the rankings with a 74 and 76, respectively.

Petite Bernice Olivarez-Ilas and wiry Samantha Martirez were on identical 78s while Abby Arevalo managed a 79. - AMD, GMA News
