PBA fines Guiao P100,000 for verbal run-in with Meralco’s Hodge

(Updated 2:55pm) PBA Commissioner Chito Salud on Friday fined Rain or Shine Elasto Painters head coach Yeng Guiao P100,000 for his verbal confrontation with Meralco Bolts forward Cliff Hodge, the league announced on their official Twitter account.

However, Hodge did not get away scot-free as the league also upgraded his foul on Elasto Painters center Raymond Almazan to a flagrant foul - 2, fining Hodge P20,000 as a result.

Both incidents occurred Wednesday, April 23, at the end of Rain or Shine’s 102-93 win against Meralco, which evened their best-of-three quarterfinals series in the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup.

Hodge used a closed fist on the face of Almazan, according to the league, with 35 seconds left to go in the game, but it was only ruled a regular foul by game officials.

After the final buzzer, Guiao then attempted to confront Hodge about said foul, in the process, calling Hodge a derogatory term.

It is just the latest for the often-fined and outspoken Guiao. During the 2013-14 Philippine Cup Finals, Guiao led his side in an aborted walkout that saw the league sanction the team with a P2 million fine. - AMD, GMA News
