PHL bet Capadocia upsets top seed, gains quarters berth in ITF jr circuit
Filipino bet Marian Jade Capadocia pulled off the biggest surprise Thursday—pulling off a 6-1, 6-1 upset over top seed Kanika Vaida of India in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior's Circuit Week 1 tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Capadocia joins compatriots Filipino-Vietnamese Tamitha Nguyen and Maika Jae Tanpoco in the quarterfinals.
“I didn't expect to play very easy against her,” said Capadocia, who gained a 4-0 lead in both sets and didn’t look back. “I’m sure (Friday's match) will be tougher. I have to prepare.”
Britain's Eden Silva, a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Russian Anna Iakouleva, will be Capadocia's quarterfinals foe.
Nguyen posted a 7-5, 6-2 win against Taiwanese Ya-Hsuan Lee while Tanpoco outplayed Russian Anna Grigoryan, 6-2, 6-0, to claim a quarterfinals seat. <B>— JVP, GMA News</B>
