News Report:

Palace won’t force Lacson to produce ‘pork’ scam evidence

Malacañang on Thursday said it will not force rehabilitation czar and former Sen. Panfilo Lacson to produce evidence in connection with the alleged pork barrel scam supplied to him by businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles.

"We will leave with Secretary Ping Lacson whatever knowledge, whatever document he knows," presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said at a press conference.

Lacson, who didn't use his pork barrel funds when he was a senator, said the Napoles family had given him a draft affidavit that contained a list of lawmakers supposedly involved in the scam.

But Lacson said he wants to verify the information he has first before going to President Benigno Aquino III, which Lacierda said is up to the former lawmaker.

"We will defer to the judgment of Secretary Lacson as to when or does he plan to talk to the President," Lacierda said.

He added that they leave the evaluation of evidence to the Justice Sec. Leila De Lima and her department.

"We want everything to be evidence-based. We want to be… sure that the cases that we will be filing will be substantiated by truth," Lacierda said.

"So as of this point, we will just wait for the evaluation of Secretary Leila de Lima. It’s hard for us to make any judgment at this point because it will… I will be going into the realm of speculation," he added.

The Palace, however, has committed not to spare any allies who will be tagged in the issue.

Earlier, De Lima said Napoles has committed to "come clean" and "tell all" about the alleged fund scam.

It was later on reported that 19 former and incumbent senators — excluding Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. — were contained in the affidavit Napoles submitted to De Lima. —Kimberly Jane Tan/KBK, GMA News
