2 Pinoys among passengers rescued from sunken S. Korean ferry – report

Rescue underway as SoKor ferry sinks. Rescue helicopters hover above a sinking South Korean ferry to evacuate 476 passengers and crew 20 kms off Byungpoong in Jindo, South Korea on Wednesday, April 16. The ferry was on its way to Jeju island from Incheon when the incident happened. AFP/Yonhap
(Updated 1:15 p.m.) Two Filipino entertainers were among the passengers who were rescued from a ferry that sank off  South Korea earlier this week.

A report on Bombo Radyo on Thursday quoted Philippine embassy in Seoul officer-on-duty Bobby dela Cruz as saying the two were brought to a hospital for treatment.

Dela Cruz did not immediately name the two Filipinos, the report added.

But dela Cruz was also quoted in the report as saying no Filipinos were among the 200 reported missing in the wake of the tragedy.

He added the embassy will continue to monitor the progress of search and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, DFA Spokesperson Asec. Charles Jose told GMA News Online in a tex message on Thursday In a text message that the Filipino entertainers who worked on the ship "are safe and have been brought to the hospital for treatment."

Jose also said there was no report of other Filipinos being hurt in the accident.

A report on Time.com indicated the ferry was carrying mostly high school students and teachers to Jeju when it sank off the southern coast of South Korea.

It said at least nine people were killed. — Joel Locsin, with a report from Rie Takumi /LBG, GMA News
